Typhoon Gaemi, the season’s third major storm, has wreaked havoc across Fujian Province, impacting over 766,000 residents and causing direct economic losses totaling approximately 1.6 billion yuan (about US$224.35 million), according to a report by Xinhua News Agency. The destructive weather event prompted authorities to evacuate 312,700 individuals from high-risk areas as of Sunday morning.

In response, the province mobilized a massive rescue effort involving 2,763 teams, 69,400 personnel, and 15,600 pieces of equipment. These teams worked diligently to mitigate the effects of the storm and assist those in compromised areas. Despite the severe conditions, the provincial flood prevention and control office has confirmed that there are currently no reported casualties. This announcement comes as a relief amidst the widespread destruction.

Heavy rains triggered by Typhoon Gaemi have led to the flooding of 17 rivers in the region from Thursday to Sunday, exacerbating the challenges faced by the local authorities and rescue teams. However, the efforts to restore normalcy have shown signs of success. All power grid failures caused by the typhoon have been resolved, ensuring that electricity supply is no longer disrupted.

The telecommunication networks have also remained stable throughout the ordeal, allowing for effective communication and coordination of rescue and recovery operations. The situation in Fujian remains tense, but under control, as teams continue to work tirelessly to ensure safety and restore stability in the aftermath of Typhoon Gaemi.
